The Imphobia Voter PPE (c) Copyright 1995 Tasmaniac / ACiD / Hypernova
What
----
Imphobia is one of the most popular and most widely distributed
disk-magazines covering the demoscene. One of the recurring items in
Imphobia are the charts. These charts are supposed to give a good view
of who's hot and who isn't <g>. The charts are based on votes given by
people involved in the demo scene. To provide a consistent method for
obtaining votes, this PPe was created on request by Darkness.
The PPE does what it is supposed to do... gather votes.
Requirements
------------
- Some diskspace (depending on the amount of users that will vote). Each
voting user adds about 3.5K to the voting database.
- PCBoard 15.2 !
This PPE will _NOT_ Run on previous versions of PCBoard. This is due
to the compiler used (PPLC 3.0). The code is not PPLC 2.0 compatible
and I don't intend to provide a PPLC 2.0 compatible version. If you
don't run 15.2 or higher... Tough.
Installation
------------
Installation is pretty simple.
- Copy the voting PPE to a directory of your choice.
- Install the PPE in the CMD.LST as a new command. VOTE seems an obvious
choice, but you may already be using another voting system.
The PPe will create a file IMP-VOTE.VOT which is located in the same
drive and directory as where the PPE is located. For this reason, be
sure you have installed the PPE on a harddrive and _NOT_ a RAM drive
since this could lead to loosing all the votes.
The voter is fully compatible with multinode operation, and can safely be
installed on multiple nodes. Be sure however that in a multinode system,
each node starts _THE_SAME_ PPe, failing to do so will be somewhat
troublesome since you'll end up with multiple voting results.
The first time the PPe starts, you will receive an error message stating
the Votes file does not exist. This is normal.
To reset the votes, just delete the IMP-VOTE.VOT file.
Operation
---------
To start the Voting PPE. The user has type the command you chose in the
installation. The user will get some information first, and then drops
to the voting topics. When all votes have been cast, the votes are saved
in the voting file. When the user returns to the voting, he will have a
chance to change/edit his previously cast votes.
Voting Results
--------------
If your BBS is not one of the Imphobia distribution sites, you can still
install this PPe, and have the votes counted in the charts. All you need
to do is attach the IMP-VOTE.VOT file to a message addressed to Ivan Darky
(Darkness) on Genesis BBS (+32-2-2453498).
For Imphobia distribution sites. You may want to send to file to
Darkness yourself, as he may be unable to come pickup the file himself.
Afterall, calling all the Imphobia sites to collect the voting results
could be a "bit" expensive <g>.
Also be sure to send your .VOT file before the voting deadline (anounced
in each Imphobia)
Warranties
----------
None. Any damage resulting in the use or possession of this voting PPE
are the sole responsability of the user.
History
-------
1.0 : Initial release
1.1 : Multinode fix. If multiple users who have not voted before enter
the Voting PPE, only the last users' votes would be stored in the
voting results.
